Detailed Ultrasound
Detailed ultrasound during pregnancy (also known as second-level ultrasound) is usually performed between the 18th and 24th weeks of pregnancy. It is an examination performed between weeks. This ultrasound provides a detailed examination of the baby's anatomical structure. This method, which is a very important diagnostic tool for expectant mothers, helps detect possible anomalies in the development of the fetus.
Assessing Fetal Anatomy
A detailed examination of the baby's organs and systems such as head, face, brain, spine, heart, stomach, kidneys, bladder, arms and legs is performed.
Detection of Fetal Anomalies
It is performed to detect symptoms of genetic or structural anomalies such as Down syndrome, spina bifida, hydrocephalus.
Amniotic Fluid Level
The amount of amniotic fluid is evaluated. Excess or deficiency may indicate different health problems.
Placenta and Umbilical Cord Examination
The location and structure of the placenta and the ability of the umbilical cord to carry oxygen and nutrients to the baby are checked.

Although detailed ultrasound is a routine practice, it is especially recommended in some special cases:
- If there is a family history of genetic disease
- If the expectant mother is older than 35
- If there is a history of an abnormal baby in previous pregnancies
- If the mother has a chronic disease (such as diabetes, hypertension)
- If a suspicious situation is detected during routine checks
During detailed ultrasound, the following information can be obtained:
- Baby's gender (optional)
- Abnormalities in fetal heart rate and heart structure
- Baby's movements and musculoskeletal system development
- Whether the organs are in their normal position and structure

Benefits of Detailed Ultrasound
Early Diagnosis: Possible problems related to the baby's health can be diagnosed early.
Pregnancy Follow-up: The health status of the mother and baby is closely monitored.
Birth Planning: If there are anomalies, prenatal treatment or intervention during birth can be planned.
Is Detailed Ultrasound Safe?
Detailed ultrasound does not contain radiation and does not harm the fetus. Since it works with sound waves, it is safe for mother and baby. However, it is not recommended to repeat it unnecessarily.
